lionsNEW YORK (May 8, 2014) — The Detroit Lions found another weapon for quarterback Matthew Stafford with their first pick in the NFL Draft. It wasn’t another wide receiver, though.

The Lions selected tight end Eric Ebron from North Carolina with the tenth overall pick in the draft. Ebron is seen as more of a receiving than blocking tight end. He has been compared to New Orleans’ Jimmy Graham and San Francisco’s Vernon Davis.

He established school records at North Carolina as a junior in 2013 for single-season receptions (62), single-season receiving yards (973), career receptions (112) and career receiving yards (1,805) at the tight end position.

One player many wondered if the Lions would take, Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard, was available when the Lions made their selection.

Ebron had a great day in New York. Before the draft, he proposed to his girlfriend atop the Empire State Building. She said yes.
