GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 8, 2014) — For the first time in 2014, West Michigan had a summer preview with temperatures in the 80s.

The map above is a look at high temperatures on Thursday. The high of 87 in Grand Rapids was just two degrees short of the record high of 89 set in 1926.  In Muskegon, the high of 83 was just one degree away from the record high set in 1993.

An isolated severe thunderstorm developed Thursday evening and resulted in some large hail in Montcalm County. The rest of us have a chance of showers and thunderstorms late Thursday night into Friday. The image below is from our in-house computer model, Future Track, around lunchtime Friday. Some strong storms are possible, but a widespread severe weather outbreak is not expected.
