Man Airlifted After Moped Crash

SHELBYVILLE, Mich. (May 10,2014) – Michigan State Police from the Wayland Post are investigating a personal injury traffic crash that happened at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.

The crash occurred on Wildwood Rd., near the intersection of Fawn Lake Rd. in Orangeville Twp. in Barry County.

Troopers were dispatched to a report of single-vehicle and single-person crash.

James Bourdo, 65, of Shelbyville had reportedly been thrown off of a moped and suffered severe injuries.  Police say he was not wearing a helmet.

Orangeville first responders and Wayland Area EMS responded to the scene.  West Michigan Air Care transported the victim to Borgess Hospital.

Bourdo underwent surgery and is currently in critical condition.  Police say his actions prior to the crash are currently under investigation.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
