Bicyclist Critical After Hitting Vehicle

kzoopolicestockKALAMAZOO, Mich. (May 13, 2014) — A 59-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after he hit a truck with his bicycle, police say.

A truck heading southbound on S. Westnedge Avenue around 3:25 p.m. on May 12 was trying to turn right onto W. Maple Street when he saw the bicyclist coming down the Westnedge Hill sidewalk at a high speed.

Police say the driver tried to swerve back onto Westnedge, but the bicyclist hit the vehicle’s right front bumper. He was not wearing a helmet.

The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital in critical condition with a head injury and a possible broken leg.
