yolanda reyesWALKER, Mich. (May 16, 2014) – Family members tell FOX 17 that a body found in a Walker construction site is that of Yolanda Reyes, a mother of four who went missing late last month.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the Walker Police Department said the body is believed to be that of Reyes and that it was the subject of a homicide investigation.

Investigators remained on scene until just before 5p.m. at the Bristol Ridge condominiums construction site. Chief Deputy Greg Long says construction workers who were excavating found the body around 8 a.m. Long says the body was partially submerged but not buried.

A neighbor who lives in the area says they were approached Friday morning by a Walker Police officer who was going door-to-door asking if anyone has a security camera that may have captured a suspicious vehicle.  The officer said it may be part of evidence that could be connected to missing Walker woman Yolanda Reyes.

WALKER BODY

Scene of search Friday morning at Walker condominium complex construction site.

Reyes is the only reported missing person in the City of Walker. Long said Friday they had been in contact with her family for the possibility there is a connection.

Reyes was last seen on April 24th near 4 mile road and Bristol Avenue, about a half mile from the construction site. Her husband said he dropped her off at work at a greenhouse. Police have said no co-workers or anyone else ever saw Reyes that morning. It wasn’t until her son went to pick her up around 5p.m. that day when they learned she never reported for her shift.

Over the past three weeks, her family and friends have held a vigil, left hoping for answers.

In the past relatives have told us she was a devoted mother and wife who would never leave her family.

Police were hoping to have the autopsy completed by Friday, but again have yet to confirm the identity of the body found.
