LOWELL, Mich. (May 17) — A high school senior in Lowell is dead following a crash early Saturday morning.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said that 18-year-old Alex Dlouhy was killed after his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic on Lincoln Lake Avenue near 3 Mile Road. Friends said that the high school senior only had four days left of school before graduation.

“He left my house around at around 7 o’clock to go home and I guess that’s when the accident happened,” said Agustine Juarez.

Agustine Jaurez said that Dlouhy spent the night at his house after having a get together with friends. Jaurez said that Alex left early Saturday morning before he woke up.

“That’s the sad thing. I didn’t even get to see him before he left. He would come over a lot, every week just about and stay,” said Juarez.

Joshua Hewitt said that he got a phone call from an officer, telling him that his friend was killed in the wreck.

“I saw a picture on twitter about this car accident, and I texted him earlier that morning asking if that was his car in the wreck and I didn’t get a reply,” said Hewitt.

Investigators said that a SUV struck Dlouhy on the driver’s side of the vehicle, and that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

“Disbelief actually. It was very hard because it was just the night before when I was with him and he was at my work with me for a little bit,” said Hewitt.

Dlouhy’s friends said that the high school senior was looking forward to graduation.

“He only had four days left of school and he was really excited to graduate. He was a very smart kid taking all AP classes. He was undecided about what school he was going to go to. He mentioned something about MSU,” said Juarez.

Longtime neighbor Jim Denhollander said that Dlouhy was an Eagle Scout, and had a bright future ahead of him. Denhollander said that he’s spoken with Dlouhy’s parents.

“I didn’t tell them that I know how it feels because I don’t. I’ve lost my pet, my mother, relatives and sure it hurts, but I’ve never lost a child,” said Denhollander.

Neighbors tell FOX 17 that Dlouhy’s family church is offering counseling services for the family.
