High School Senior Dies After Crash Outside Of Lowell

LOWELL, Mich. (May 17, 2014)- One man died early Saturday morning after a two vehicle crash outside of Lowell.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Lincoln Lake Rd. NE south of 3 Mile Rd. NE. Deputies state that a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 18-year-old Alexander Dlouhy of Lowell was travelling northbound on Lincoln Lake Rd. when he crossed the center line and entered on-coming traffic. Another person traveling southbound on Lincoln Lake swerved off the road to avoid a collision.

Mr. Dlouhy tried to steer his Jetta back into the northbound lanes and lost control of his vehicle. Then a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by 60-year-old John Lewis of Sheridan was also travelling southbound on Lincoln Lake Rd tried to swerve out of the path of Mr. Dlouhy put was unsuccessful. The Ford Explorer struck the Jetta in the driver’s side door.

Mr. Dlouhy died at the scene while Mr. Lewis was transported to Greenville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Lewis was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

Mr. Dlouhy was not wearing his seat belt.

According to Mr. Dlouhy’s Facebook page, he was set to graduate from Lowell High School this year.

It is unknown right now, whether or not alcohol was a factor in this crash.

Lincoln Lake Rd. was closed for almost three hours while the accident was investigated.
