Firefighters cut power to the elevator after stopping it on the 2nd floor, the fire department said.

Rescuers did not wait for a ladder; they used a chair and boosted themselves up through a hatch to the roof. They immobilized the victim and lowered her through the hatch, the fire department said.

The woman survived, but was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Her name and condition are unknown.

The cause of the accident is unclear.

A state elevator inspector was called to the scene and Boston police will investigate, the fire department said.

The Red Sox released a statement Saturday that read in-part: ” A young woman suffered serious injuries shortly after the conclusion of last night’s game at Fenway Park. Various Red Sox personnel responded immediately and worked alongside the Boston Police Department, Boston Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services to address the situation. She was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where she is being treated.”

The Boston Red Sox played the Detroit Tigers Friday night, losing 1-0.
