Some Rivers Still Running A Little High

WEST MICHIGAN (May 18, 2014) — With the dull, gray, wet weather we just wrapped up some area rivers are still running a bit high and remain under FLOOD ADVISORIES.

Here is the National Weather Service definition of a flood advisory:

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS MINOR FLOODING IS POSSIBLE AND RIVERS ARE
FORECAST TO EXCEED BANKFULL. IF YOU ARE IN THE ADVISORY AREA REMAIN
ALERT TO POSSIBLE FLOODING… OR THE POSSIBILITY OF THE ADVISORY
BEING UPGRADED TO A WARNING. REPORT OBSERVED FLOODING TO LOCAL
EMERGENCY SERVICES OR LAW ENFORCEMENT AND REQUEST THEY PASS THIS
INFORMATION ON TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

A flood advisory is currently in effect along the Grand River at Ionia. Current stage is 18.1 feet. Bankfull is 13.5 feet. Flood stage is 21 feet. The forecast is for the river to fall in this location.

A flood advisory is currently in effect along the Grand River at Lowell. Current stage is 11.5 feet. Bankfull is 10 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The river is forecast to crest Sunday night/early Monday morning at 11.7 feet.

A flood advisory is currently in effect along the Grand River at Comstock Park. Current stage is 11.2 feet. Bankfull is 11 feet. Flood stage is 12 feet. The river river is forecast to crest on Monday morning at 11.3 feet.
