KENTWOOD, Mich. (May 24, 2014)– Senator Carl Levin is presenting a Vietnam Veteran with the Bronze Star medal Saturday evening.
Grand Rapids-area veteran Bishop Robert Brown is being presented the Bronze Star medal for heroic actions during the Vietnam War. The Bronze Star is given to those who demonstrate themselves”by heroic or meritorious achievement or service” in combat. Brown served as an Army medic in 1966 when his unit came under attack by North Vietnamese forces. Under fire, Brown helped pull to safety and treat five soldiers while he was wounded himself. Levin’s office along with Army officials helped Brown receive a Purple Heart amongst other prestigious awards for heroic actions.
The ceremony will be Saturday, May 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 208 located at 133 44th St. in Kentwood.
