Tornado Touches Down In Michigan Tuesday Afternoon

HALE, Mich. — (June 16, 2014) The National Weather Service out of Gaylord confirms a tornado did in fact touchdown Tuesday shortly before noon.

The tornado, touched down in the town of Hale, which is just west of Tawas City. The tornado was rated an EF-1, with winds around 100 mph. The tornado was on the ground for just over one and a half miles with a maximum width of 100 yards.

The path of the tornado took it right through the center of Hale and caused damage at the local VFW hall and a Hardware store. Thankfully no injuries were reported.

This storm was part of a severe weather event that brought straight-line wind damage to parts of West Michigan and deadly tornadoes to the Central Plains.
