WEST MICHIGAN (June 19, 2014) — While we’re not expecting severe weather, the first half of Friday is expected to be plagued with showers and thunderstorms as another frontal system enters the region and tracks through the state. Moderate to brief heavy rain with lightning is certainly possible.

We had plenty of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday and at least two separate rounds of severe weather on Wednesday. Norton Shores recorded the most rain with about five inches in just a 24 hour period. Grand Rapids broke their daily rainfall record for June 18 with a little more than two inches recorded. That shattered a record set way back in 1928. I actually recorded 3.25 inches of rain between the two days in Comstock Park.

Summer officially arrives on Saturday. It’s called the summer solstice. One of the longest days of the year, about 15 hours, then the days start to get shorter. This is the time of year when the sun is at its highest point in the sky in the northern hemisphere. The weather looks dry and comfortable on Saturday before turning a bit more unsettled for the beginning of next week.
