Whitecaps Start 2nd Half By Tying Franchise Record for Consecutive Home Wins

whitecapsCOMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (June 19, 2014) — The West Michigan Whitecaps opened the second half of the 2014 regular season with a record-book start.

The Whitecaps defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 15-4 for their 10th straight win at Fifth Third Ballpark. West Michigan hasn’t lost at home since May 21.

The Whitecaps scored in five consecutive innings starting with a run in the third inning. Then the Whitecaps scored five runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and finished with four more runs in the seventh.

Francisco Contreras was 3-for-3 with three RBI’s including his first home run of the season coming in the third inning. Jeff Holm was 3-for-4 with two doubles and his sixth home run of the season in the fifth inning. Holm also had two RBI’s.  Willy Adames was 3-for-5 with two RBI’s, too. Six of the Whitecaps nine starters had multiple-hit nights.

Starting pitcher Chad Green (2-2) earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits in five innings of work. He had four strikeouts.

The two teams won’t play again until Saturday, when they will participate in the first scheduled doubleheader in Whitecaps history. The first game starts at 1:00 p.m. with the second game slated for 7:00 p.m. The teams have Friday night off because Fifth Third Ballpark is being used for the opening ceremonies of the Meijer Summer State Games of Michigan.
