Police: Driver Identified in Deadly Crash Won’t Face Charges

battle creek police genericBATTLE CREEK, Mich (June 29, 2014) – Police in Battle Creek say they’ve identified and spoken with a driver involved in a deadly hit and run crash that happened late Saturday, and say that driver won’t be facing criminal charges.

The collision happened along southbound M-6 near the E. Columbia bridge around 11:00 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses called police after seeing what they believe was a man either jump or fall from the bridge above, into the path of a truck heading southbound on the road below. Officer’s located a male in his 50’s deceased on the side of the road upon arriving at the scene.

The truck involved wasn’t there when police arrived, but the driver later contacted police and gave a statement.

Police say the driver of that truck is only considered a witness to the incident, and won’t face charges.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released.
