Jake Thompson StillMINNEAPOLIS — One Tigers’ prospect played a major role at the expense of another Tigers’ prospect in USA’s 3-2 win over the World team in the MLB Futures Game.

Former Whitecap Jake Thompson was called into pitch in the top of the 6th to face fellow former Whitecap Steven Moya. The right-handed Thompson needed just three pitches to strikeout the left-handed hitting Moya to end the top half of the sixth.

Thompson would face one other batter, striking him out in five pitches before being pulled. Thanks to a Joey Gallo two-run home run in bottom of the sixth, Thompson got credit for the win.

Moya finished 0-for-3 on the day with two strikeouts and a walk.

Thompson plays for the Tigers’ Single-A affiliate in Lakeland while Moya plays for Double-a Erie. The Futures Game is a part of the MLB All-Star week at Target Field in Minneapolis.
