MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Human error remains a possible cause in the July 11 chlorine leak at Michigan’s Adventure, according to a release from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department.

Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler says that officials are still conducting interviews, data review and testing into the incident that sent 28 theme park attendees to the hospital.

“While human error remains 1 possibility, the final determination by experts HAVE NOT been made,” Roesler wrote in a release, correcting an official in his office who said human error had been determined as the cause.

According to the White Lake Fire Authority, 63 total patients were evaluated for symptoms of chlorine exposure, including difficulty breathing, burning eyes and running nose.  All 28 of those hospitalized were released by Friday evening.

Michigan’s Adventure is expected to release a statement following the conclusion of the investigation.
