MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. — Muskegon County Sheriff Dean Roesler will not face any charges following a state police investigation into alleged embezzlement.
According to the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office, Roesler was being investigated for allegedly embezzling from the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office Memorial Charity Golf Outing between 2007 and 2011. He allegedly took money in increments ranging from $40 to $500.
According to a release, the charity’s account was set up as a subaccount to his personal bank account, and Roesler said the withdrawals were made in error.
“While money donated donated to the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office Memorial Charity Golf Outing may have been donated to non-charitable use, it appears that those funds have been returned,” the release says.
Eaton County Prosecutor Douglas Lloyd was appointed as a special prosecutor in the case.
Roesler has since removed himself from access to the account.
