PORTAGE, Mich. — A 25-year-old man from Vicksburg was arrested after police say he stole from a Walmart store.

Police got the call about the theft at the store on Shaver Road just after 4 a.m. on July 31. Originally, employees said that the driver crashed a car in the parking lot after stealing from the store. Police say an employee tried to contact the suspect, but the suspect ran off and got into a 2008 Mercury. The suspect sped off onto Shaver Road at West Melody. He shortly lost control of the car and crashed on Shaver.

Police arrested the driver for operating under the influence of drugs and he was taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail. A passenger in the car ran off from the scene, and police could not find him. He is described as a tall black man in his 30s who was last seen wearing a white coat.

At last check, the investigation into retail fraud continues.
