1. 18-year-old stabbed and killed in Ottawa County; teen suspect arrested

Ottawa Co sheriff cruiser panel nightPolice say 16-year-old Victor Donaldson is accused of stabbing and killing 18-year-old Japaris Rodgers around 11 p.m. on July 31 in Holland Township. According to police, Rodgers was walking along Riley Street near 132nd Avenue with friends when Donaldson stabbed him multiple times. Rodgers was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Donaldson was arrested and is expected to face open murder charges. Read more: 18-year-old stabbed and killed


2. 3-day cease-fire in Gaza crumbles

Israel and Hamas agreed to a 72-hour unconditional cease-fire, but that israel hamas conflict tanks generictruce appears to have unraveled as both sides accuse the other of violating the truce. It went into effect at 1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. Officials from Israel and Hamas said in text messages that the cease-fire was meant to allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians in Gaza. 4. 17th annual Cops Fore Kids at Gracewil Country Club cops fore kids file

The all-day event teams law enforcement officers with juvenile offenders currently on probation as well as children from the Boys & Girls Club. 5. 2014 Grandwich competition draws to a close

More than 30 grandwich2restaurants have been competing over the last few weeks for the winning title in this year’s Grandwich competition. The top 10 finalists include The Bistro, The Courtyard by Marriott, The B.O.B., Grand Rapids Brewing Company, HopCat, Stella’s Lounge, and more. Judges will pick the winner at Rosa Parks Circle.
