CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments regarding same-sex marriage cases in four different states on Aug. 6.

Among those states is Michigan, and the hearing comes after a federal judge ruled in March that the state's ban on gay marriage was unconstitutional. After the ruling, more than 300 gay and lesbian couples in Michigan got married, but shortly after, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette filed an appeal which led to a stay on the ruling that has remained in place.

Other states involved in the hearing are Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The court will decide whether those states should recognize gay marriages that take place in states where it is legal.
