Two people injured after being struck by a vehicle

BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich- Two people are recovering Sunday morning at a Grand Rapids Hospital after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night on Port Sheldon Street west of 56th Avenue. Deputies state that a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Jenna Esterley of Jenison pulled over to side of the road to check her GPS when she pulled too far over and put her vehicle in the ditch.

51-year-old David Pierson of Zeeland stopped to help the women. Mr. Pierson was talking to 17-year-old Samantha Brown of Hudsonville, who was a passenger in Ms. Esterley's vehicle.  They were struck by a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jeremy Vedder of Hudsonville.

Mr. Pierson was critically injured and was taken to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital. Ms. Brown was also injured and was taken to Spectrum Butterworth hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.

Mr. Vedder told Ottawa County Deputies at the scene that he did not see the pedestrians or the vehicle until he struck them.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department is still investigating this crash.
