GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.,-- As kids around West Michigan prepare to head back to the classroom, area non-profit In the Image is giving away thousands of shoes to help students start the year on the right foot.
As part of the 18th annual S.H.O.E.S program, thousands of shoes have been bought and will be handed out to eligible K-5 students in need in Grand Rapids Public Schools, along with some schools in Kentwood, Wyoming and Godfrey-Lee school districts.
The first day of shoe distribution wrapped up Monday afternoon, but organizers said pairs will also be handed out at the In the Image Store, located at 1823 South Division Ave, on August 21st and 29th from 9:30-12:00pm, 12:30-3:30pm and 5:30-8:30pm.
"It's definitely a needed item and these kids are excited to get them," Bethann Egan, the Executive Director of In The Image told FOX 17 News. "We've already seen quite a few kids come through that have shoes that are way too small for them, they have a hole in the sole...We are here for the community. We want to help people out."
