BATTLE CREEK, Mich.,--  A much-loved outdoor education center in Dowling, MI will remain open for at least another year. Members of the Battle Creek School Board voted Monday to allow Clear Lake Camp to stay open while recommendations to keep it running are explored.

The center, which has been used by various school districts in West Michigan for decades, has been on the chopping block in recent years due to budget cuts within the district.

The feasibility study presented to the Board Monday presented recommendations to keep the camp open this year and beyond.

"I think this study pulled together all the information that [the school board and superintendent] really needed, to see what needed to be done and what costs would be incurred to keep it open," said Amy Cherry, Camp Director. " I see many years ahead for Battle Creek students, as well as for children all over the state of Michigan continuing to learn and participate in the programs offered at the outdoor center."

The Board is expected to meet again to discuss the study, and consider the recommendations to raise the money needed to keep Clear Lake Camp open indefinitely. FOX 17 will continue to follow the story.
