GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Don’t look at it as summer winding down, look at it as the school year is just getting started! To celebrate, a back to school bash for elementary school-aged children is being planned from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22 at the David D. Hunting, YMCA, 475 Lake Michigan Dr. NW.

You can enjoy carnival style games that allow families to win school supplies. Not to mention, there will be art projects, games, face painting, treats, give-aways and more! Kids can learn about Buster the Safety Bus and get a free vision screening test courtesy of Sam’s Club. Along with the YMCA, activities are all made possible by Grand Rapids Public Library, Kent County’s Great Start Collaborative and the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Injury Prevention Program. Donating books to the event is Scholastic Books and apples
