BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich., -- Tanger President/CEO Steve Tanger joined local authorities Thursday to officially break ground on his latest development in West Michigan. The new Tanger Outlet Mall, which is being built on 84th Street off of US-131, will bring more than 75 stores and 350,000 square feet of shopping space to the area.
" We're excited to be here," Steve Tanger told FOX 17 News. "There's a lot of enthusiasm in the area and in the state, which is exciting for our company."
The development is expected to create 300 jobs during the construction process, and up to a thousand full and part-time retail jobs. The outlet mall is slated to open in Fall 2015.
"Economic development is our goal, putting money into the local economy, which provides opportunities for more people to support more local business," said Tanger. "It has a positive economic spiral to create growth."
The Byron Township development will be Tanger's third outlet mall location in Michigan. A representative from Tanger says the company expects 4 million shoppers a year. The current outlet in Howell off of I-96 now sees a little more than 2 million annual shoppers.
