The week’s road construction: I-96 lane closures are back

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Backups can be expected through Thursday afternoon on westbound I-96 as the holiday weekend approaches. Lane closures will continue on northbound US-131 in Rockford and on westbound I-196 in Grand Rapids.

The good news is that all MDOT funded projects will cease operations Friday afternoon, August 29, for the Labor Day weekend.

  • After Plainfield Avenue to Alpine Avenue
  • Monday, August 25, until 3 p.m. Thursday, August 28
  • All ramps at the I-96/US-131 interchange remain open

  • Until 3 p.m. Thursday, August 28


I-196 in Grand Rapids

  • Westbound lane closures
  • Lake Michigan Drive to Market Avenue
  • Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28

  • Lane closures eastbound and westbound
