GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – West Michigan drivers are feeling the squeeze according to John Richard of the Michigan Department of Transportation.

“Three projects in some heavily populated areas that are giving some headaches to motorists,” Richard said.

The ‘big three’ projects can be found on westbound I-96 from the Grand River to Alpine, southbound US-131 on the S-Curve which is set to finish up on August 28 and I-96 eastbound and westbound near Lowell.

Richard said the work on all three projects is time consuming.

“They saw, cut the concrete patches out, rip it out, pour the new, cure it, cut it again to seal out the water,” he said.  “It’s a three-day project.”

The work on all three is expected to cost $2 to $3 million.  Eighteen cents of the cost each gallon of gas you buy help to pay for the work on Michigan’s highways.
