GRAND RAPIDS, Mich – A brief chase involving a motorcyclist and a Michigan State Police trooper is over following a crash on Grand Rapids northwest side late Wednesday evening.

The crash occurred along Leonard Street near Broadway around 9:45 p.m., according to police.

The following news release was sent to FOX 17 News Thursday morning from Michigan State Police:

A Trooper from the Michigan State Police Rockford Post attempted to stop a speeding motorcycle traveling on n/b US-131 near Burton St. in the City of Grand Rapids.  Once the Trooper activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle, the driver of the suspect vehicle failed to stop for the Trooper in the area of Leonard St. and US-131.  The Trooper pursued the motorcycle for 3 miles at speeds reaching 65 mph.  The pursuit was terminated after the suspect ran several reds lights in heavy traffic and could no longer be observed.   Sometime later the Trooper was advised by dispatch the motorcycle crashed into another vehicle on Leonard St. near Broadway.

The suspect, a 20 year old Hispanic male out of Wyoming, MI, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The other driver involved sustained no injuries and was not transported to the hospital.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor.
