Recall Roundup: Air conditioners, light fixtures, and laptop power cords

BETHESDA, Md. — The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced several recalls this week, that include a variety of products ranging from air conditioners to specific laptop power cords.

Below is the information on some of the recalls that may impact you.

Amana, Century, Comfort-Aire, Goodman and York International Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner/Heat Pump (“PTAC”) units
— The power cords on the air conditioning and heating units can overheat, posing burn and fire hazards.  About 233,500 units are impacted in this recall.  The manufacturer has received five reports of power cords smoking or catching on fire. No injuries have been reported.  Consumers should immediately stop using and unplug the air conditioning and heating units and contact the company for a replacement power cord.  Click here for more information on this recall.

Hewlett-Packard and Compaq notebook computer AC power cords — The AC power cord can overheat, posing a potential fire and burn hazard.  The recall involves Hewlett-Packard’s LS-15 AC power cord: 5,577,000 in the U.S. and 446,700 in Canada.  HP has received 29 reports of power cords overheating and melting or charring resulting in two claims of minor burns and 13 claims of minor property damage.  Customers should immediately stop using and unplug the recalled power cords and contact Hewlett-Packard to order a free replacement.  Click here for more information on this recall.

Cree LED High-Bay Luminaires — The glass lens on the fixture can break, posing a laceration hazard.  There are about 10,000 units involved in this recall.  The light fixtures are used in airport, industrial, municipal, and retailer settings.  The firm has received 15 reports of the tempered glass lens breaking.
