MUSKEGON, Mich.– It’s common to hear that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But, Muskegon county officials argue dinner ranks even higher.

September is National Family Month and many West Michigan counties are promoting the importance of family dinners.

Muskegon is one of six counties helping encourage parents to be more ‘hands-on.’

“This is a fantastic program that is very proactive in trying to keep our crime statistics down,” said Muskegon County Prosecutor, DJ Hilson.

Jill Montgomery Keast, with the Public Health of  Muskegon County, agrees.

“You should always be nosy in your child’s life. You should always know what they’re up to. Believe it or not, kids care. And kids want their parents to care what they do. You just have to ask. And be very specific when you do.”

Forty-two restaurants are offering discounts through the month of September as a more affordable way for families to spend time together. Click herefor the list.
