VALENCIA, Calif. -- It used to be the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world, but on Monday, it caught fire and partially collapsed.

The Colossus at Magic Mountain in California burst into flames while nobody was on the ride, and while the park was closed for the day.

The fire started while the coaster was being disassembled.  There were no injuries.

The Colossus was actually shut down in August, so it could be replaced by a newer version of the ride, called The Twisted Colossus.

When it first opened in 1978, the classic wooden coaster was the tallest and fastest the world had ever seen.
