GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- West Michigan family-owned business Savory Foods started with a basic cookie recipe, and has grown to produce gourmet products.

They will share their Michigan-made products on national television this week.

It’s a busy day inside the Grand Rapids factory, just a few days before featuring its popular gourmet cookies, popcorn and sweet treats on Shop HQ Sept. 11.

"We are really known for our cookie dough. Our cookie dough and fundraising, but also our Penn Street Bakery cake," explained Dien Le, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Savory Foods.

You  might recognize the yellow dodo bird on cookie dough and pizzas sold through school fundraisers. But it’s what’s inside that really stands out and earned this West Michigan company another spot on the network.

"We pride on making the best product out there as well as the service we have," Le said. "A lot of the ingredients we use are from right here in Michigan so we are a Michigan based company.”

Savory Foods and the Penn Street Bakery brand products will introduce new items like a deep dish pizza cookie and delicious chocolate dipped cookies. The timing couldn’t be better.

"This is actually during a busy season so we are really going to be working Saturday, Sunday and all day Monday right afterwards too so we are excited to be busy.”

Since the early 1980s, Savory Foods says they’ve always kept their promise to customers.

"We take a lot of pride in the quality of our product. Many companies nowadays try to cut price and take less product out of their packaging but we have gone the other way," Le said.

Making people happy has been the mission which is why Savory Foods always suggests “Enjoy life. Have dessert first.”

The company also provides a variety of gluten-free products.
