ALLENDALE, Mich. -- A rape was reported in Allendale just before 4 a.m. Sunday.

A young woman living at  Country Place Apartments said a man broke into her unit and raped her. She and her roommates called 911, and the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department responded.

The women are students at Grand Valley State University and live just off-campus.

They want to know why it took nearly five days for the university and police to send an alert out to the campus community, despite their request to warn others.

The incident is said to have happened off-campus, however, the university sent an alert last week for other alleged off-campus crimes near GVSU's Downtown Grand Rapids campus.
