Pennsylvania State Trooper dies in shooting, another wounded

BLOOMING GROVE, PA. (CNN/ WNEP)- Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers shot late Friday night, one fatally, were ambushed just outside the police barracks in Blooming Grove, Pennsylvania, Commissioner Frank Noonan told reporters.

Investigators were interviewing a “person of interest” Saturday morning, but no arrests had been made, state police spokeswoman Trooper Connie Devens said.

Earlier, Noonan said police had no description of the shooters or any information about the motive. But Noonan said “this attack seems to be directed particularly at the Pennsylvania State Police.”

The shooting happened at 10:50 p.m. Friday night.

One trooper died in the shooting. Another was wounded, had surgery and is in stable condition, Noonan said.

“It’s very emotional for all of us,” said Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan. “But we’re also focused on our investigation. I’m sure this is going to be a very difficult time for them as it is for all of as when we’re done working to get this terrible crime solved.

He declined to release the identities of either trooper.

Police from New York, New Jersey and throughout the Northeast are assisting in the search for the shooter or shooters, Noonan said.
