Amtrak slashes Grand Rapids to Chicago prices 30 percent for September

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Looking for a quick trip, but don’t have a lot of time or money?

In honor of 30 years of service on the PereMarquette line, Atrak is offering 30 percent off its service between Grand Rapids and Chicago through the month of September. To claim this offer, go to

To mark the occasion, 30th anniversary ceremonies were planned for Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, at each of the stops: Holland, Bangor, and St.Joseph/Benton Harbor. The Westrain coalition and Amtrak were hosting a double-decker Superliner along with a special theater car at the rear.

Those who came out to the events were given the chance to win tickets and received commemorative gift bags. Sponsoring the event was also Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), which provides state support for the route.
