SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Some students in Illinois are asking for help from the West Michigan lake shore, after the GPS signal for their weather balloon and camera went dead not far from South Haven.

The call for help came in a recent post to where user EGaucin12 included the following in his post:

“A few classmates and I launched a weather balloon near Rockford Illinois that proceeded to go far east and into lake Michigan.  We have a gps tracker inside of a box along with a camera.  The tracker stopped signaling a few hours ago but we have a pretty good idea of where it might hit the shore. I will upload a picture of the box along with the last known locations of the box. I am willing to give some cash if it is found.”

Below are photos of the box, as well as its last known path.

Love to help, but unfortunately that is all private property along there, and short of getting in a boat at SH and boating up there, there is very little way to get access to the beach to look for it.

Greg is incorrrct, glass vs geockel, the public has the right too walk on the beach. The entire great lakes coast line is fair game and its from the water up to the high tide water mark on the beach. The real trick is getting there without trespassing. So next time old rich persob starts screaming private property shove him the law and tell him to call the cops.

I would go out there and look myself but with work and school it may take me a while. Ive notified several people in the area and am hoping to hear back soon.
