KENTWOOD, Mich., -- The Kentwood Fire Department fleet is back to five trucks, with the addition of the brand new Engine 53. The truck was officially added and dedicated Tuesday, in honor of longtime Kentwood Commissioner Frank Cummings.

Cummings, who passed away in August 2012, was a big supporter of the fire service. His family was in attendance, along with fire and city officials as the truck was pulled into the parking lot of Kentwood City Hall for a special ceremony.

"Commissioner Cummings has been a long supporter of the fire department, held that commission seat for many, many years," Kentwood Fire Chief Brent Looman told FOX 17 News. "With this being our first truck since he passed, it was just the right thing to do."

Christine Cummings became emotional looking at the new engine with her husband's name on it.

"I think he would be thrilled, humbled and honored," she said. "It's very exciting."

Fire officials said the new engine is expected to be in service for as long as 20 years.
