Residents evacuated in Benton Harbor area due to gas leak

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Access to a large area of countryside east of Benton Harbor was cut off by authorities after a leak was discovered in a natural gas pipeline.

Roadblocks were established in an area centered around the 100 block of N. Blue Creek Road in Benton Charter Township.

The leak was discovered around 2 a.m. Tuesday on a pipeline owned by TransCanada. Residents without a one-mile radius of the leak were evacuated, and a number of roadblocks were established to route drivers away:

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, authorities had not changed the status of the leak, evacuations, and roadblocks.
