KENT COUNTY, Mich. -- The community gathered to celebrate the life of Connor Verkerke.
The 9-year-old died tragically in early August. Police said Jamarion Lawhorn, 12, stabbed Verkerke to death.
Today, Kellogsville Schools held its annual "Community Pride" event at the middle school. A group of entertainers looking to hold a fundraiser for Verkerke's family were invited to do so at the event. It continues tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m.
The event featured many fun activities and entertainment including: live music, face painting, a juggler, bounce houses, basketball, etc. Wyoming and Kentwood emergency vehicles were also on hand for kids to get an up close look.
Anyone looking to donate to the Verkerke family can do so at any Lake Michigan Credit Union.
The event starts up again tomorrow (Saturday) at noon.
