Bicyclist struck by vehicle

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich.- The Kent County Sheriff’s Department was called to a report of a bicyclist being struck by a vehicle at Hanna Lake Ave and 60th Street in Gaines Township at 5:16 p.m. Sunday.

A 62 year old man from Caledonia was driving a Ford Explorer on 60th Street and made a left turn into a 48 year old man from Kentwood, riding his bicycle.

The bicyclist was transported by AMR Ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the Ford Explorer were not injured.

As the crash is still under investigation, speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
