Car crashes into house, driver injured

PORTAGE, Mich. — Police are investigating after a car crashed into a home early Sunday morning.

According to the Portage Department of Public Safety, at around 1:30 this morning a car crashed into a house at the intersection of South Westnedge Ave and West Melody Ave. Once police got to the scene, they found a heavily damaged car at the corner of the house located at 8508 South Westnedge Ave.

Firefighters and rescuers were able to get the driver out safely. The 31-year-old man was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

After investigating, police believe the driver was traveling North on South Westnedge Ave. when he lost control, leaving the road and hitting a utility pole before crashing into the house. Police also believe that alcohol and speed were both factors in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. The driver’s name is not being released at this time.
