GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Are you ready for Grand Rapids Griffins hockey?

Hope so, the season starts tonight!

After a disappointing 2013-2014 season that saw the team bow out in the Western Conference semifinals, coach Jeff Blashill’s team is ready to return to the promised land and bring the Calder Cup back to Calder City.

Up first: the Lake Erie Monsters, who beat the Griffins twice in the preseason. Since those games, Grand Rapids has brought in 10 players who had been in training camp with the Red Wings.

2014-2015 marks the 19th season overall for the Griffins, the 14th in the American Hockey League and 13th as an affiliate of the Red Wings. Grand Rapids is 10-5-2-1 overall in season-opening games, and 10-6-2-0 in home openers, though they have lost the last two.

As of Thursday night, about 1,500 tickets were still available for opening night.  $2 hot dogs and $2 domestic drafts are available from 6-8 p.m.
