FRUITPORT, Mich. — Police are alerting drivers in the Muskegon County area to be wary of brief road closures Sunday as crews work to move a 4,500 square foot home three miles from its current location along some busy stretches of road.
The seven-bedroom, three-car garage home located on Sternberg Road in Fruitport Township will literally be picked up and moved to a new location on Grand Haven Road in Norton Shores.
Temporary road closures will be in effect for about six hours beginning Sunday at 8 a.m. for the move, according to a traffic advisory from the Norton Shores police department.
The closures will affect one of the county's busiest intersections: Sternberg and Harvey Road which will also include passing over U.S. 31 along the route. The move will travel along Sternberg with closures planned from Airline Road to Grand Haven Road. The area on Grand Haven Road from Sternberg to Farr Road will also experience closures.
The U.S. 31 north and southbound ramps to Sternberg will also temporarily close Sunday morning.
Certain areas of the road will be shut down at different times, as needed, according to police. NSPD advises drivers try to avoid the area during these times.
Both Norton Shores and Fruitport police departments will be assisting with the move.
The entire move will cost the homeowner approximately $70,000, according to a representative with the moving company J Jonassen.
