GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—A West Michigan man is planning a five-month wilderness trek from Mexico to Canada in an effort to honor his late brother and raise money for those suffering from mental illness.
Jonathan Lundy lost his younger brother, Logan, in a car accident back in December of 2012. Lundy said his brother also struggled with anxiety and depression.
Since his death, Lundy said he’s been looking for a way to remember his brother, a young man who loved helping people and also loved nature.
As a result, Lundy plans to walk 2,600 miles in the wilderness along the Pacific Crest Trail in 2015.
He hopes to raise at least $5,000 to benefit HIKE for Mental Health, a non-profit aimed at helping those suffering from mental illness. Eighty percent of the money raised goes towards ways to treat mental illness, and 20% will help preserve wilderness trails.
