Police seeking person of interest in two Muskegon Heights homicides

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Leon Means, 61, is being sought as a person of interest in two Muskegon Heights homicides that occurred just blocks apart, according to the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office.

On Tuesday, Anna “Red” Lawson, 63, was found in her home on E. Sherman Boulevard, and Judy Bushman, 62, was found dead in her home in the 2600 block of Wood Street.

Police say Lawson was found dead at around 1 a.m. Tuesday from apparent stab wounds.

At roughly 7 a.m., police were called to to Bushman’s home just blocks away after they said family couldn’t reach her.   She was also found deceased, but police are not yet confirming the nature of her death.

Sources have confirmed to FOX 17 that Means was Bushman’s boyfriend.

Means’ criminal background is extensive.  He was convicted of robbery at 19 and, according to the Holland Evening Sentinel, in June of 1971 Means and three others robbed and pistol whipped a Muskegon family.

Means was locked up until 1979 following that conviction.

In 1984, Means was arrested and charged with breaking and entering, and faced up to 10 years in prison on that charge

Just two years later, Means was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and a felon carrying a concealed weapon.

In April of 1989, he was charged by the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office for escaping prison, which carried a maximum of 50 extra years.

Fast forward to July of 1996,  Means was charged with conspiracy to bring contraband into prison.  He was released from prison in July 2012. .
