GVSU tries to salvage 2014 season

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- It's not a common scenario for Grand Valley State football.

Seven games into the 2014 season, the Lakers are out of the NCAA D-2 playoff picture with a 3-4 record - the most losses for the program in a single year since 2000.

The struggles of 2014 come off a 2013 campaign that saw GVSU advance to the national semifinals and enter this season ranked second in the country in preseason polls.

Matt Mitchell says his team now turns its focus to playing for pride and building for the future.
