PORTAGE, Mich. — A 28-year-old sexual assault suspect was reported missing Monday by the Portage Department of Public Safety.

According to a release, there is also a warrant out for Fred Thomas Garnish’s arrest because he recently failed to appear for a court hearing in Ottawa County regarding a sexual assault charge.

He has not been seen since Monday, Oct. 13, and officials say he was making suicidal statements at that time.

Officials believe Garnish left in his blue 2011 Hyundai Elantra with Michigan plate DCK2989.  A tent was also missing from his residence, and police say he is a “survivalist-type” who may be in an isolated area.

Garnish has lived in Ottawa County in the past and has contacts in Muskegon County as well.  Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Portage Public Safety at 269-329-4567 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
