Michigan Marine dies during training exercise in North Carolina

FORT BRAGG, NC — A Michigan Marine died this week during a training exercise at Fort Bragg.

According to CNN affiliate WCTI, 24-year-old Lance Corporal Steven Szymanski, 24, of Midland, died after a “vehicular mishap” during a training exercise on Tuesday.

Szymanski was a light armored vehicle crewman assigned to the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion at Camp Lejeune.

Syzmanski joined the Marine Corps in September of 2013 according to his obituary. He is also a 2008 graduate of Midland High school.

Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, from 4-7 p.m. at Smith-Miner Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral for Lance Corporal Steven Szymanski is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, at noon at Smith-Miner Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made in Steven’s name to Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund, No Marine Stands Alone or Camp Courage.
