Girl, 12, charged with stabbing 9-year-old sister

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 12-year-old girl was charged with assault with intent to murder Wednesday after allegedly stabbing her 9-year-old sister multiple times.

Emmett Township Public Safety officers say the stabbing happened in the Triangle Trailer Park, 993 E. Michigan Avenue at roughly 5:40 a.m.

The victim was treated at the scene for stab wounds to her face, neck and chest, and she was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.  Officials say she is expected to survive.

The 12-year-old's bond was set at $50,000, and another hearing will be scheduled within two weeks.  She's currently being held at the Calhoun County Juvenile detention facility in Marshall.
