BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — Jason Vander Laan accounted for 499 yards of total offense and six touchdowns — and the fifth-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs survived a surprising shootout with the Lake Erie Storm to move to 9-0 with a 66-56 win at Top Taggert Field.

The Bulldogs’ lead was cut to 45-42 with 8:51 left in the game, but Vander Laan – the school’s all-time leader in total offense – broke a 48-yard touchdown run on the ensuing drive to keep the game out of reach for Lake Erie (4-5).

Jamaal Jackson also rushed for three scores for the Bulldogs.

Ferris State hosts Northern Michigan next Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon in Big Rapids.
